Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial, Rully *Organic - certified

Background
The Dureuil-Janthials are one of the oldest families in the village of Rully, and they can be traced back to 13th century. Vincent Dureuil has today firmly established himself as one of the top growers in this village, being equally at home with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. His first vintage was in 1994 and in just a few years, he had made himself a household name both here and across the Atlantic. His whites are mineral and expressive, and his reds are juicy and fruit-laden. Following his father’s retirement at the end of 2002, Vincent inherited a substantial amount of vines, and was able to double the size of his holdings. In addition he has managed to negotiate the rental of further plots of quality land and matches supply to enormous demand by purchasing grapes from the vineyards of his neighbours whose vineyard management he respects. These wines are marked 'négoçe' -the label is Céline et Vincent Dureuil-Janthial instead of Domaine Dureuil-Janthial and does not carry the family coat of arms.

Size: This 17 hectare estate is made up of 20 appellations, mainly lying in the Côte-Chalonnaise, but also in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits.

Annual production:	100,000 bottles.

Viticultural and vinification methods
Since 2001, they have made the decision to no longer use herbicides, and the domaine is now subject to organic methods. Since they no longer employ herbicides, they place great importance on ploughing and earthing-up in the vineyards, and the lunar calendar also has a strong influence over vineyard practices. Yields are controlled by de-budding, and the picking is always done by hand. The white wines spend 16 months in barrel and are subject to 25% new wood.. For the red wines, after 100% destemming, the wines are fermented in vat and then matured in barrel (one third new), for 18 months.
