Domaine du Marquis d’Angerville, Volnay
Background
This is one of the most famous estates in Burgundy, and its roots can be traced back to the early nineteenth century (1804), when the baron de Mesnil owned huge quantities of land, including the prized vineyard ‘Clos-des-Ducs’. At the end of the century the Mademoiselle de Mesnil married into the d’Angerville family and their son Jacques was one of the first to bottle his own wines in the 1930’s, along with our equally famous friends the Gouges and the Rousseaus.
Today the estate is run by Jacques’ grandson Guillaume and Guillaume’s brother-in-law Renaud de Villette. Ambitious and driven, they make a formidable team.

| Vine age: | 45 years old on average. |
| Yields: | 35 hectolitres per hectare. |

Viticultural and vinification methods
In 2006 the Domaine began its conversion to bio-dynamism, and the estate is now fully bio-dynamic, and harvesting is always done by hand. Although Guillaume’s late father was a traditionalist and preferred not to use new oak, Guillaume chooses to use 20% new oak for his volnays, letting them mature in barrel for 15-18 months.
