Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot (Yves Confuron),
Vosne-Romanée
Background
The Confuron family is one of the oldest winemaking families in Vosne Romanée, dating back to the reign of Louis XIV in the seventeenth century. Their specialty was vine selection and propagation, and they even have a strain of Pinot Noir named after them, the ‘Pinot Confuron’. Jack Confuron’s marriage to Bernadette Cotetidot in 1964 gave the estate its present name. Jack has continued in charge of the estate ever since, but his son, Yves, has gradually taken over responsibility, assisted by his oenologist brother, Jean-Pierre. These two brothers have built up a wealth of experience between them, with Yves also actively winemaking at Domaine de Coucel in Pommard, and Jean-Pierre consulting for various domaines and also lecturing at Beaune wine school.

Viticultural and vinification methods
The Confurons have always taken the greatest care in the vineyards, performing their own massale selection of vines (ie selecting and using the healthiest plants for propagation), and herbicides and chemical fertilizers are banned. A green harvest in spring limits the number of bunches per vine, ensuring optimal ripening for those left on. Grape selection is done both in the vineyard and on arrival in the cellar, and pressing is done as carefully and gently as possible with a traditional, century old press. The wines are aged in barrel for 18-22 months, with 30% new, and neither fined nor filtered prior to bottling.
