Château de Puligny-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet
Background
Since Etienne de Montille took over as a director in 2001 this sleeping giant has been re-awoken. Previously this fine estate over-cropped, over-ripened and over-oaked to produce wines with little to no terroir definition. Etienne has changed all that. He has carried out extensive work in the vineyards - including the coversion to organic and gradually to biodynamic viticulture. He has lowered yields to improve fruit quality.
Less batonnage, less new oak, better quality oak and finer barrel toast have all helped to add greater finesse to the wines.
