Domaine Arlaud Père et Fils (Cyprien Arlaud), Morey-St-Denis
Background
The Domaine was established in 1949 by Joseph Arlaud, who was joined by his son Hervé in 1982. Hervé’s son Cyprien joined the domaine in 1996, and took over full responsibility for winemaking 2 years later, after spending time at the Gibbston Valley Winery in New Zealand and Hamilton Russell in South Africa. Cyprien’s brother Romain came on board in 2003, and his sister Bertie in 2004.The reputation of this domaine has rocketed since Cyprien joined his father, and we are very proud to have been the first in what is now quite a long queue of international Burgundy specialists to have recognised the rise in quality and ship the wines.

Viticultural and vinification methods
Since 1999 they started a move towards organic viticulture, and in 2009 they started to focus on bio-dynamic practices. Their 2 horses Nougat and Oka plough the vineyards in order to avoid the compacting and resulting erosion of the soil, caused by the use of heavy tractors, and their choice to hand pick also prevents the damage caused by heavy farmyard machinery.
In 2004 work was completed on a stunning new gravity-fed cuverie in Morey St Denis, far more practical than the original 16th century cellar in Nuits St Georges. The wines spend 14-16 months in barrel, with 15-20% new oak for village wines, 25-30% for 1er Crus, and 40% plus for Grand Crus.
