Domaine Bruno Clavelier

Vosne-Romanée

Bruno Clavelier

Size: 6.5 hectares

History: Bruno is something of a renaissance man; as part of his métier of vigneron he has accumulated enormous knowledge of geology, climate and micro-climates, the oak forests of France (for barrels) and the life cycle of moths – his use of female moth pheromones to disrupt their mating patterns is now a world wide ecological alternative to pesticides. All growers interest themselves in such matters to a certain degree, but Bruno delves deep.

Style: The wines are traditional, with a strong sense of terroir and great ageing potential; the subtle differences between the individual parcels of village Vosne finding expression with age. They are elegant and refined, with new oak kept to a minimum. Whilst his core range centres around Vosne, he has secured parcels in Chambolle, Corton Rognet and Nuits St Georges, all of which display their natural differences of terroir through his careful attention to detail.

Methods: ???? ORGANIC?? Read that he is..

Vineyards: The jewel in Bruno’s crown is probably his 1er Cru Chambolle-Musigny, which lies right next to the renowned vineyard of Musigny itself. In fact this tiny plot of vines might have been classified as Musigny had Bruno’s grandfather pushed for it. In 2000 Bruno acquired his first parcel of real Grand Cru with a small plot of vines in Corton.
