Size: 6 hectares
History: Stéphane Aladame created the estate in 1992 at the tender age of 18, and it didn’t take him long to establish himself as one of the best vigneron in Montagny and one of the most respected. In fact, according to Clive Coates, he makes “the best Montagny of all”. Aladame now has 6 hectares in total, of which 4.5 are Montagny 1er Cru.
Methods: Aladame has a hands-off approach to viticulture, working the soil, avoiding chemical treatments and using ecological methods to maintain the health of the grapes and achieving naturally low yields. Vinification – always using natural yeasts - and maturation is done in a mix of stainless steel, cement tanks and oak barrels (up to 30%), with bottling taking place the following summer.
Vineyards:
Montagny 1er Cru: a blend of several different 1er Cru sites, including Les Maroques, Les Vignes Derrières and Les Gouresses. The vines are up to 70 years old and the soils are clay limestone. This is always a classic Montagny, fresh and with tremendous minerality.
Montagny 1er Cru ‘Les Burnins’: this cuvée comes from vines that are over 80 years old and including some Chardonnay Muscaté vines, an ancient Chardonnay clone. The wines are full and rich, characterised by a honeyed intensity. |
